Youth and Adults
I love teaching youth and adults! They often come to me with a variety of backgrounds - some with only orchestral training, others who have had other teachers before coming to me. I believe it's important to find the kind of teacher that can connect well with the student, inspire practice, and offer him or her the philosophy and style of teaching desired. For this reason, I offer a free trial lesson, which gives both of us the opportunity to get to know each other and see if the fit is good. We can also check schedules and make sure there is a time that works for both of us. If my teaching schedule is full, I can put you on a waiting list.
Recommendations:
Youth Lessons:
For youth, I recommend weekly 45-minute lessons, and participating in group performances as often as possible. I also encourage them to participate in the Cache Valley String Festival held in March each year to get feedback from other teachers.
Adult Lessons and Group Classes:
For adults who want to focus on building good technique including effective bowing and rich tone, I offer individual lessons and group classes. For at least the first month, I recommend private lessons (30 or 45 mins) in order to give specific feedback and be sure foundational principals of bowing and positioning are established. The first lesson (or "trial lesson") is free. I think it's important for each teacher/student combination to have an experience together to determine if the goals, approaches and schedules are compatible.
As you begin private lessons, you are welcome to audit our group class at no charge to see if it would meet your needs and if you feel ready. The group classes focus primarily on developing good technique and tone, musical concepts and applying these principles to whatever violinists are currently playing. It's an ideal addition to participation in adult orchestras or ensembles. To schedule a trial lesson or to audit a group class, send an email to elizabethsimmons89@gmail.com (see Home page for email link).
Private lessons will begin in September 2024, while Adult group classes will begin in October 2024. A calendar will be available soon, and no private or group lessons will be given in December.
